All On Beautiful Lake George

SPRING VALLEY-It was a perfect day for the 8th Annual Spring Valley Lions Club Ice Fishing Derby on beautiful Lake George. Lion’s club representatives reported it was one of, if the best tournaments they have ever had. The moderate temperatures, blue sky and sunny skies made for a great day to get out on the lake and try you luck at catching a big fish, having one of the Lions World Famous hamburgers or taking a chance at one of the door and cash prizes.

The Spring Lions served up approximately 320 of those world famous burgers and about a hundred hotdogs with fixings.  The Army Corp of Engineers, which operates to Eau Galle Recreation Area where the ice fishing contest takes place Lake George reported that there were over 190 cars that had entered to park for the contest by 1 p.m last Saturday afternoon. According to their estimate over 500 people came out to the lake Saturday, making it their busiest day of the year.

The cash raffle winners were; Austin Jacobson-$200, Cory Johnson-$100, Jorday Van Dien-$50, Mary Hoffmyer-$50, congratulations to the winners. Congratulations also to the fishing contest winners, Northern Pike 1st place, Trent Wentland of Spring Valley, 4 pounds 4 ounces. Bass and Crappie 1st place, Joe Schmidt, Eau Claire, 5 pounds for the Bass and 5.8 ounces for the Crappie. Pan fish 1st Place, Dino  Bengston from Wilson,  6 ounces. Seventy-seven door prizes were also given out.

Funds raised by the Spring Valley Lions will be given to the Corp of Engineers for fishing improvements at the park. The Lions wish to thanks everyone who came and supported this year’s Ice Fishing Derby, thanks also to the businesses who contributed toward the successful event and all the volunteers who helped out this year.
